Basically I want to share audio via iTunes from a FC4 box.
I've found articles that mention hurl, daapd, and other things to be installed, but all the articles i have found are from 2 years ago and the various components are not always all available.
I know someone out there has managed to get this to work, and I eagerly await the dissemination of your vastly superior knowledge.

Re: Help needed for a noble cause
Wed, September 27, 2006 - 2:54 PMI use slimserver.
Using slimserver, you can access all your tunes over your network (or internet if you have a static ip) using any mp3 program that supports streams (winamp, i tunes) and you can adjust the playlist from your web browser. You can even set up seperate streams for seperate machines, and use playlists.
Check out slimdevices.com
The software is for their streaming device, but does not require it to work. They have the server software for linux or windows, etc. -

Re: Help needed for a noble cause
Wed, September 27, 2006 - 4:15 PMThe trick is to try and get it so the other 100 people in the office can read it without having to install anything special. Here-in lies the difficulty, getting it to broadcast (apparently through rendezvous and daapd) so it appears native. -

Re: Help needed for a noble cause
Wed, September 27, 2006 - 8:35 PMThey shouldnt have to. Any mp3 player that plays mp3 streams should do it. Hell, Media player should do it.

Wed, September 27, 2006 - 3:53 PMYou could try Wine. I know iTunes runs on Codeweavers Crossover Office (fairly inexpensive commercial software).
